This book ‘young Achievers: Cathy Freeman’ by Beth Dolan reveal the importance’s and significances of the life of former Australian sprinter, Catherine Astrid Salome freeman also known as ‘Cathy freeman.’
In this book it covers a whole branch of facts and events that occurred in her time including things such as; her personal detail, the starting point of her career, experiences, achievements, sponsorship and etc. The content includes; Champion sprinter, fact file, the barefoot coaching, gold in Auckland, post-gold blues, the Barcelona Olympics, individual gold, flag controversy, team freeman, countdown to Atlanta, the biggest race of her life, toward Sydney 2000, young achievers timeline, glossary, further reading, and index
Beth Dolan uses descriptive, informal and educational type of language and style of writing to demonstrate it as a biography of someone (Cathy Freeman) and an informative text. She also uses side facts in a box, giving more details or extra facts, such as; interview, did you know?, special dates, articles and etc.
This book shows interesting and fascinating facts about the life of Cathy Freeman. The things that really interest me is that it’s brief, easy to read and understand, includes various photo’s of Cathy freeman and consist of all the important events that occurred in her life and there are also some side facts. However there also things that I disliked from the book, such as; it may have been too brief that it doesn’t include enough information, it’s an old book meaning it doesn’t show information of her present life.
